A Rich History
The Siberian cat originates from the dense forests of Russia, where they developed a magnificent triple-layered coat to withstand harsh winters. One of the oldest known long-haired cat breeds, Siberians have been documented since around 1000 AD.
Revered in Russian folklore and children's stories, these cats were cherished by rural families for their exceptional mousing abilities and gentle companionship. Despite their ancient origins, Siberians were only formally recognized outside Russia in the late 20th century, gaining popularity in the United States after their importation in the 1990s.
